The proposal for the Church of Norway’s budget for 2017 involves a real cut compared to current levels.

The draft budget for 2017 proposes a grant to the Norwegian Church totalling 1.9bn Krone.

Although the Church would do everything to ensure a nationwide ministry, it would be very challenging to maintain the Church’s activity level if this proposal remains, the head of the Church Council, Kristin Gunleiksrud Raaum, said.

We note that the Minister of Culture believes that the proposed financial framework is sufficient to continue the tasks of a nationwide national Church. The reality is that a grant of 1.9bn Krone mainly only covers labour costs and is far from the expectation of maintaining a nationwide national Church,” Ms Gunleiksrud Raaum added.
