Partaharjun activity, the pilgrimage path and ‘barrier-free nature’, received the 2016 Award of the Finnish Church Council for environmental education.
The award was presented by Bishop Seppo Häkkinen of the Diocese of Mikkeli.
Partaharjun activity in Pieksämäki, eastern Finland, has been strongly focused on accessible outdoor recreation opportunities; wheelchair-friendly outdoor activities have long been in place.
The Barrier-free nature trail’s deepest purpose is to offer everyone the opportunity to move independently in the wild.
The jury stated that “the construction of nature trails and organizing nature trips are an important part of Christian environmental education activities. Partaharjun activity centre solutions implemented with distinction the spirit and aim of the Church accessibility programme” .
