Theological adviser appointed for Finnish Archbishop

Pastor Dr Petri Merenlahti has been selected as Archbishop Kari Mäkinen’s special theological adviser.

Dr Merenlahti has worked for the past seven years at Finn Church Aid and is a leading theologian and campaign manager. In addition, he has served as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Helsinki.

He received his Ph.D. from the University of Helsinki in 2002. He was a member of three consecutive research projects in the programme of the Research Unit on the Formation of Early Jewish and Christian Ideology.

In his post-doctoral research, he focused on psychoanalytic readings of the Bible and the construction of gender in biblical texts and their interpretation.

In 2013, Dr Merenlahti joined Embodied Religion, a research group directed by Prof Elina Vuola of the Academy of Finland.
